#EwenTube

A strangely satisfying place to share my photography.

I have always struggled with the internet as a place to share my photography. Sitting with a photo should be an experience that goes beyond the image itself. YouTube has proved to be a surprisingly enjoyable space to share my images, and thoughts on the craft.

Editing RAW Photos made Simple

My simple secrets to editing RAW photos that can help any photographer improve their skills. I call it "Ewen's Bell Curve" :) In this video I walk through examples of how I do my processing, editing and grading, and help guide you towards finding your own style.

Timelapse Made Lovely
Taking a tonne of still photos and compiling them into a timelapse video is a special kind of magic.

What I learned from judging a photo competition
I was asked to judge a competition for a camera club, and that’s pretty much where it all went wrong.

Layering of Colours with Intentional Camera Movement
ICM is a chance to let yourself be expressive and creative with very very little investment of time or gear.

Pushing 12MP RAW to Poster Print Size
I've paired the magic of Upscayl with the Sony ZV-E1 to generate some amazing results. 12MP is looking good.

Finding a path in photography that you don’t hate
If you’re bored it’s because you are ready for something new to do with your talent.

Birds Are Hard
Not a technical video, more a conversation on the art of walking around park being snubbed by all manner of birds :)

How to Capture Auroras
This is a great primer for getting started on shooting and also happens to have some of my favourite moments from chasing auroras earlier this year.

Why 85mm is NOT my ideal portrait lens

When it comes to portrait photography, 85mm is the exception not the rule. It is not my ideal portrait, because it limits my ability to share the story. In this video we are heading to Kathmandu in Nepal and sharing some lovely moments with the local people in Nepal and exploring a little street photography. And when possible, we’re shooting wide instead of long.

Japan by Sea
Deep dive into the good and not so good issues when travelling around Japan on an small expedition ship.

You Do Not Have To Shoot Manual
Anyone who tells you 'You must shoot manual to be a real photographer' should be pushed into the sea.

How am I getting such great video off such a cheap camera?
There is a lesson here for stills photography just as much as video. We often focus so much on the camera gear that we overlook some of the fundamentals when it comes to photography.

How many penguins are enough penguins?
We explore the local population of penguins and other wildlife on the beaches of Macquarie Island in the Sub-Antarctics, and ask the age old question of how many penguins are enough to satisfy a yearning for nature.

Why 35mm is perfect for photography in Japan
I started this journey with way too much camera gear, and in the end it was my smallest and lightest prime lens that gave me most of the joy.

Night Under The Auroras
Beneath the night sky in Arctic Norway, with nothing but my cameras for company, I recorded a few thoughts on why the Northern Lights are so special.

Getting Out of Struggle Town
Even professionals get stuck in a rut sometimes, but with the benefit of a little inspiration we often find our way out again.

Melbourne in Monochrome

Downtown Melbourne is full of gorgeous photographic moments, and especially in the winter light. Walk with me through some of the inspiration that I have enjoyed right outside my doorstep.

and
Lenses

40mm F2 by TT Artisan
A cracking good little lens at an incredible price. This was the perfect companion to my little Lumix S9 and Sony ZV-E1 camera bodies.

Sigma 50mm F1.2 for Sony and L-Mount
I love a good 50mm lens and this F1.2 by Sigma is exceptional. Two thumbs up.

Sigma 28-105mm F2.8 DG DN ART
Even if a 28-105mm zoom is not your thing, sit back and enjoy some photos from Melbourne anyway!

Sigma 14mm F1.4 Field Review from Arctic Norway
This is my new favourite lens for the Arctic. It’s not just for stars, and not just auroras.

Lumix G9II Custom Setup
One of my favourite features on the LUMIX cameras is how they've implemented the custom dial. In this video I walk you through the settings I've loaded into my G9 Mark II.

Beginners Guide to the LUMIX S5II
One of my most popular videos, and a year in the making. All the good oil on getting the best out of the Lumix S5II.

Sigma 60-600mm F4.5-6.3 DG DN OS Sport
I’ve hauled this lens through the Australian Outback to capture some amazing wildlife. It's not a small lens to pack, but it's marvellous.

Custom Settings for the LUMIX S9
My custom settings the S9 have been field tested and are ready to share. You can also download a copy of my setup to apply to your own S9.

LUMIX S 100mm F2.8 Macro for L-Mount
Dual focus motors and a compact design make this a unique lens for L-mount shooters.

The 50mm Problem
Why every photographer needs this lens in their kit.
