Swimming not Drifting
As the world changes around us, we need to decide if we are ready for change too.
Ballarat International Foto Biennale 2013
This weekend one of Australia's biggest photography festivals opened in Ballarat, and there's much more going on than just photos on a wall. It celebrates careers, reflects on lifetimes, encourages creative process and critiques aspirations while leaving room for emerging innovation.
Behind the Feathers
I started trying to write a thankyou list for all the people who helped make the "Feathers of the Dragon" exhibition possible, and was quickly overwhelmed by how connected the world really is. Both the world of galleries with their images on the wall, and the world of wild spaces where birds exist in harmony with the Himalayan mountains. Apologies in advance that it took 1800 words to say my THANKS.
Why Competitions Suck
There are two things in the world of photography I really hate. Weddings and competitions. At least with a wedding shoot you might get paid at the end of it, which therefore makes competitions the most evil thing in the world.
In Review In Paris
Every year a handful of festivals coordinate some of the leading institutions and publications around the world to meet with photographers and review their work. It costs serious money to participate in these sessions, and the level of critique can range from belligerent to brutal.
Transforming Your Photography
We're talking about how photography can transform a moment, transform the subject, and even transform ourselves. With a little inspiration from Bhutan and the Himalayas we walk through a range of ideas you can focus on to move your photography forward.
What Is A Photographer
When so much of our lives exist in the digital landscape, what does it mean to be a photographer these days and does it matter if your work is never finding its way into a physically printed form?
Transformation
Curation is not just about finding a balance, it’s about finding a story. Your story.
Light and Lovely Macro
Few people take full advantage of extension tubes, but they are affordable, light and easy to use. Turn your telephoto zoom into a macro lens within seconds and explore the world of all things small.
Philosophy
If you want to change the way you take photos you have to change the way you think. Photography is not just about F-stops and shutters. You cannot shoot what you cannot see.
