WrenFest in the City of Melbourne
November is #WrenFest in the City of Melbourne, an event to help researchers attract support for identifying and submitting sightings of the Superb Fairy-wren in our urban parklands. I'll be running an online photography presentation that is open to anyone who wants to learn a little about birds and cameras, plus a photo walk for those living here in Melbourne.
Chapati Man of Jodhpur
The city of Jodhpur is one of those places in Rajasthan where tourism has not quite caught on. Life inside the blue-washed walls of the old town still runs to a distinctly Indian rhythm. Donkeys share the streets with auto-rickshaws, fresh produce and recycled clothing fills the central market and food stalls line the streets as camels and cars pass by.
Testing ND Filters
My inner geek went a little crazy one day and I decided to evaluate just how much colour shift is happening when working with ND and Variable ND filters. Here's how I did it.
Indias Jewell in the Junk Heap
The Taj Mahal is singularly stunning and you'd have to be made of marble to remain unmoved by it's beauty. The same cannot be said of Agra's rickshaw drivers and their eagerness to lighten your wallet.
Ballarat International Foto Biennale 2013
This weekend one of Australia's biggest photography festivals opened in Ballarat, and there's much more going on than just photos on a wall. It celebrates careers, reflects on lifetimes, encourages creative process and critiques aspirations while leaving room for emerging innovation.
Snow and Light in Norway
Snow hides everything you don’t want to see. It silently arrives in the depth of night and fills in the gaps, wipes away the footsteps from yesterdays photographers and leaves you a clean slate to work with every morning. Snow clones out the messy bits better than any Photoshop session.
Belonging
Working in a freelance career offers you an ocean of opportunity, but can equally erode your sense of belonging. Being part of something greater than yourself is not something you want to avoid as a freelancer, in fact it is essential to your success.
Crazy Times in Kathmandu
Few names evoke the imagination like Kathmandu. To armchair travellers this destination conjures a romantic ideal of a gateway to the Himalayas. To seasoned travellers it's a necessary hub for journeys deeper into Nepal. For photographers the city is a vibrant explosion of cultures where inspiration is always around the corner.
