Sharing the moment with Tim

Sharing the moment with Tim

I want to share a few words of appreciation for a fellow traveller, just one of many lovely people who help to make these journeys a little bit more special.

Photography That Loves You Back

Photography That Loves You Back

It can sound so cliche when people talk of how their time in Nepal has “changed their lives”. But I cannot think of any photographer who visited the Himalayas and didn’t return home renewed with inspiration for their craft and humanity itself.

Beautiful Chaos

Beautiful Chaos

Nepal is a country filled with rough edges. They are numerous, but they are outnumbered. The solution to any problem in Nepal is to simply slow down. Bistari bistari. Slowing down gives everyone a chance to make room, and then move forward. It's the same for photographers.

The Best 35mm Lens for My LUMIX

The Best 35mm Lens for My LUMIX

If you appreciate the value of a 35mm prime lens, you’ll also appreciate that there are a good many 35mm designs to choose from now. Here are my favourite two 35mm lenses from Panasonic and Sigma, both for full-frame L-Mount bodies, and why they appeal to such wildly different photographic styles.

Eyes Wide Open

Eyes Wide Open

Sometimes the failures of our fellow travellers can become an inspiration to making our own journeys more fulfilling.

Nepal Photography Tour

Nepal Photography Tour

One of the most diverse and challenging tours I have ever organised, this non-trekking adventure gets up close and personal with holy men of Kathmandu, takes travellers into the pure air of the Annapurnas and rolls through the dusty streets of Newari villages in Kathmandu Valley. Sultry sadus, scenic mountains and the noble Newari.

The Absolute Best Lens in Nepal

The Absolute Best Lens in Nepal

Very rarely a new lens comes along that changes how I think about photography. This is one of those lenses. My priority for glass is always quality over convenience, but this time you get enough of both to make it a hard one to walk past. The newly released "DG Vario-Summilux 10-25mm f/1.7 ASPH" by Panasonic+Leica is not only a great lens for MFT systems, but may well be good enough to tempt full frame owners to look seriously at adopting the smaller mirrorless format of the Lumix G series.

Every Little Step

Every Little Step

Every little step you make towards enriching the world we live in is worth while. You may not feel like you’re having a huge impact, but don’t stop trying.

Capturing those moments that are rare, and making them last forever.

Doing Our Best

Doing Our Best

Be Your Best Tours is the natural evolution of my experience in travel. Since 2004 I've been designing and delivering photographic journeys to discerning travellers. Now it's time to make room for people who are happy to leave the camera at home.

Half The Job

Half The Job

Taking a photo is only half the job. The other half is editing them. Join me on a visit to temples in the Annapurna Ranges and a chat about the creative potential and learning potential when editing your RAW files.

Learning To See

Learning To See

Capturing in B+W is not merely about getting a better handle on light and dark. Given a chance it can drag you much deeper into the entire point of photography as an art form.
