L-Mount with Ewen

L-mount is an interesting format that avoids the lock-in experienced with Canon and Nikon. Leica and Lumix get most of the attention, but Sigma bring a lot to this alliance. Plus you add in some of the cheaper Chinese makers, like TT Artisan, and you have a lot of great options to suit any budget.

Full Frame 40mm F2 AF

Two weeks ago I set off on my journey across Nepal with this marvellous little lens. It's the 40mm F2 AF from TT Artisan and I'm really looking forward to sharing with you some of those photos, and also sharing my thoughts on why I think this is an absolutely stellar lens.

Viltrox 28mm F4.5 CHIP for L-Mount

The fascinating and quirky Viltrox 28mm F2.5 CHIP has now been released for L-mount. This is a super small lens that pairs well with super small camera bodies such as the Lumix S9 and Sigma BF.

AF 50mm F1.8 Neo from TT Artisan

TT Artisan have made an amazingly affordable lens for mirrorless full frame cameras that opens the door to experimenting with fast primes on a budget. This lens is available for Sony, Nikon and Leica mounts.

50mm F0.95 II MF Full Frame

This lens is not a Noctolux equivalent, but it does look gorgeous at F2 and is available for most mirrorless mounts.

Custom Setup for the LUMIX S9

Download my custom setup for the LUMIX S9, along with a very full range of custom configurations directly available through the mode dial. Updated in 2026 for Firmware V2.0 and up.

Lumix 100-500mm Telephoto for L-Mount

Superb quality AF and Stabilisation from a modest sized design. This lens brings something very special to the L-mount lineup, and pairs wonderfully with cameras like the Leica SL3 or Lumix S1RII.

S-E100 F2.8 Macro for L-Mount

The S-E100 F2.8 Macro lens for L-Mount has just been released by LUMIX, and it’s very different to anything I’ve used on a mirrorless system before. It’s a super compact lens for super small subjects, but delivers super-sized performance and in particular the Autofocus is on a whole other level.

Sigma 14mm F1.4 Field Review

This is my new favourite lens for the Arctic. It’s not just for stars, and not just auroras. It’s also a creative lens choice when you want to do something a little bit different with landscape photography.

Sigma 28-105mm F2.8 DG DN ART

I’ve had a chance to shoot with the new Sigma 28-105mm F2.8 DG DN Art over recent weeks, and explore the light and shadows on Melbourne's streets. This is not a one-size-fits-all lens, but a very professional mid-range zoom that delivers a bright and contrasty image.

SIGMA 60-600mm Field Review

I spent a few weeks in The Outback with the new SIGMA 60-600mm F4.5-6.3 DG DN OS SPORT L-Mount. The name is a mouthful, and the lens is a handful. This super telephoto represents the latest in AF and OS technology from Sigma, packaged into a superbly flexible and optically impressive full-frame wildlife lens. Available for both L-Mount and E-Mount.

Sigma 14-24mm F2.8 - Long Term Review

This is a hard lens to leave at home. It delivers quality and sharpness for landscapes and the night sky, plus has a neat party trick with rear pocket for ND filters. Worthy companion to any full-frame E-mount or L-mount camera. (Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG DN)

LUMIX S9 Review

Welcome to the LUMIX S9, the new full-frame mirrorless made by stuffing the inner workings of an S5II into a tiny little camera body. Let’s take a quick look at why the new LUMIX S9 is such a great addition to the L-mount collection, and why I think it’s a tonne of fun.

Captured on the LUMIX S5 with 24mm and 50mm LUMIX S F1.8 prime lenses.
