Ancient Kingdoms Photography Tour
The Kingdoms of Siam, Laos and the Khmer date back thousands of years, and we explore that history through the perspective of the lens. Bangkok is the bustling heart of Thailand and the starting point for our journey. We travel north to the ancient capital of Chiang Mai, the golden temples of Laos and then conclude our tour in Cambodia's majestic Angkor Wat region.
Telling a Story
A picture tells a thousand words, but arranging those words into a coherent dialogue requires more than just technical skill and an eye for composition. Great images are those that tell the story, and more often than not they are born of the story.
What is Creativity
One of the greatest struggles we have as photographers is building our creative skills. For many of us it's hard to even define what creativity is. This feature is an attempt to give you a foundation to tackle creativity and some inspiration to build your own path.
Peter Henry Emerson
I believe that all photography is art. As with all arts the medium in which it is expressed changes the ability of the artist to express themselves. 120 years ago another photographer named Peter Henry Emerson struggled with the truth about art and photography, and overlooked the beauty of his own work.
Bangkok for Photographers
Bangkok is a big city that evokes an immediate reaction from visitors, usually a polarised preference somewhere between heaven and horror. For photographers Bangkok is a challenge of chaos and confusion. My advice is to simply slow down.
Outside Looking In
One way to improve your photography is to study the work of other photographers. Another way is to study your own. Rummaging through the collected works of master photographers is not an exercise in distilling the essence of someone else's work, but a chance to learn new ways to express yourself.
The Best Photo Tour in the World
I was recently asked to review a few photo tours run by other companies, and I was amazed at what I found. Crowded tours, poorly researched itineraries and part-time enthusiasts posing as professionals. It's hard enough to decide whether a group tour experience is suitable for you, so here's a few suggestions to help you pick a winner.
The most recurring theme for a travel photographer is to seek to understand something about your subject before you photograph it. The first step is towards understanding is physically getting closer to your subject.
China Photography Tour
Landscapes and people are just the beginning for this two week exploration in China. From the imperial elegance of Beijing's palaces to the hand ploughed fields of terraces in Guangxi. We take the time to enjoy the culture of China and immerse ourselves in a photographic feast. The people of China are as friendly as they are artistic - take inspiration to cultivate your own expression on the journey of a lifetime.
Beyond the Studio
Travel photography is the antithesis of a commercial studio. You have no control over the available light and your models are not the kind of people who sign consent forms. Shooting in the field presents challenges that you may not find in a studio, and hence requires a way of thinking that goes beyond the studio.
