This lens is unusual, fun and very very compact. And it's unlike anything I've ever used on my full frame Sony before. It is been sold under the name of Samyang and Rokinon, depending on where in the world you live. The REMASTER SLIM is a Korean designed set of lenses, covering 21mm, 28mm and 32mm focal lengths. But it's not a single lens, rather a modular kit with three lens inserts to choose from.
I made a video about the Remaster Slim, because this was a fun concept and we don't get enough fun when shopping for camera gear. Spending money demands research and planning and reading blogs, and it's a very serious thing. This lens turned up in our lives when buying a new camera body, and was an unexpected gift after the sale. Then it sat on my desk for a month, until finally I opened up the box to look at what was inside.
I love the concept. I wish it covered a wider focal range, say 20, 35 and 50mm. But it's still useful as is, and might be a great concept for students who want to experiment with different gear. 21mm versus 32mm is still significant. And these are faster lenses than I would have expected, with the fastest down to F2.8. And they are sharp with well managed distortion. They're actually very good.
The AutoFocus performance feels a lot like my old Fuji XM1 at times. You can hear the AF grind into action. Mostly it still delivers just fine, but every so often the AF hunts in the wrong direction. It's not a $2000 lens!
Have seen this lens listed for sale in Australia around AU$450, which is great value. The Samyang website is closer to US$450. It's been on the market for over a year now, so the market price has settled. I suspect they didn't sell nearly as many as they hoped, maybe because the initial RRP was too high. If you can them at AU$450 then I'd say that's worth the money for sure.
Two thumbs up from me.
