Hard bird to pronounce, even harder to photograph. They move so very fast and are so very very small. This feature introduces you to the life of this very little bird and my pursuit of capturing one in flight.
Below the Treetops
Two hours drive from Brisbane or the Gold Coast is Lamington National Park and a patch of highland rainforest surrounded by valleys of eucalyptus woodlands. Much of this region is regrowth that has re-established after being cleared by graziers in the early 1900s. Today these forests are home to numerous species of birds, and the cattle have been replaced by tourists. Birders and photographers come here especially to see the Regent Bowerbird, and enjoy a number of other hard to find species.
Meet the Mistletoebird, a very small but quite amazing little song bird.
Jambo Tweet Jambo
Some of the best game drives in Kenya are not actually about Lions and Leopards, but the very small creatures that bounce about between trees and shrubs. It was the bird life in Kenya that really took my breath away on my two week safari in Kenya.
Custom Settings for Lumix G9
One of my favourite features on modern cameras is the custom settings dial. C1. C2. C3. I use these all the time. They allow you to respond to different shooting situations very quickly, and yet adhere to a baseline that makes it easier to learn your camera better.
Shooting Sunrise at Meili Xue Shan
Iconic mountains capped with snow and untamed by man. Of all the legends that circulate around the newly named Shangri-La county, the "Snow Mountains" known simply as Mei Li are easily the most convincing. Majestic peaks alter the weather and thrill the crowds. There are no certainties about getting clear skies for sunrise, but true landscape photographers are a patient lot anyway.
Angkor Wat and Siem Reap
Angkor is special. Crowded, popular, humid, hot and special. There are a lot of people who visit this place, but because it's special. It's one of those places that lives up to the hype. Hordes of tourists and scores of relentless souvenir sellers are the serious downside, have no doubt. But despite these impedances you can get great shots of the ancient ruins and contemporary culture.
