Take it Slow at the Night Market
Last week I shared a series of stills from the Queen Victoria Market, from the reopening of the Night Market. This time I've gone back with my very modest video rig to capture a slow-motion series using the high-speed ability of the Lumix G9 and a single lens.
Custom Settings for Lumix G9
One of my favourite features on modern cameras is the custom settings dial. C1. C2. C3. I use these all the time. They allow you to respond to different shooting situations very quickly, and yet adhere to a baseline that makes it easier to learn your camera better.
Make The Custom Dial Work For You
One of the most powerful features on any Lumix G or S series camera is the custom dial. C1 and beyond. This is a short primer to put you in control of the custom settings, and start working your own baseline towards better captures.
Go Slow
As travellers we have a decision to make, whether we want to take the time to immerse ourselves in new experiences or just tick destinations off a list. Photography is no different.
Silver on a Cloudy Day
A good tripod and very slow shutters combine to make a little silver from a cloudy day. So long as you don't mind getting your feet wet, or that tripod.
Light and Lovely Macro
Few people take full advantage of extension tubes, but they are affordable, light and easy to use. Turn your telephoto zoom into a macro lens within seconds and explore the world of all things small.
Beyond the Studio
Travel photography is the antithesis of a commercial studio. You have no control over the available light and your models are not the kind of people who sign consent forms. Shooting in the field presents challenges that you may not find in a studio, and hence requires a way of thinking that goes beyond the studio.
Stillness of the Mind
Stillness of mind is not merely about focusing your attention to the task at hand, it's about allowing your creative energy to flow unimpeded and to allow your life to be experienced in full. This moment right here is all that exists, now is all we have.
Cruising for Albatross
A few days sailing the Southern Ocean is a journey that at first glance holds few photographic opportunities. But even in open waters the company of sea-birds and a reasonable telephoto lens can provide rich inspiration to the creative photographer.
Absolute Beginnings
Some of the fundamental issues that come up often when travellers ask me for help. What is a RAW file, what is ISO, why should I care about sensor size and how to control exposure metering.
LUMIX GH6 Custom Settings
If you're new to the GH6 or new to the custom dial on the camera, this primer will get you moving quickly to set and reset your baseline and access a wide range of this camera's features.
Norway Off The Dial
Trip report from our adventures in Arctic Norway. This year was an exceptional adventure and one we will treasure for a lifetime.
